Benozzo Gozzoli

Benozzo Gozzoli (pronounced born Benozzo di Lese; c. 1421 – 4 October 1497) was a Florentine Renaissance painter.

Gozzoli, a student of Fra Angelico, is best known for a set of paintings in the Magi Chapel of the Palace Medici-Riccardi that portray joyous, energetic processions with exquisite attention to detail and a strong International Gothic influence.

With its accurate representation of landscapes and expressive human figures, the chapel’s fresco cycle displays a fresh Renaissance interest in nature.

Gozzoli is regarded as one of his generation’s most prolific fresco artists. He worked mostly in Tuscany, but also in Umbria and Rome.

Bernardo Bellotto

Bernardo Bellotto (c. 1721 or 30 January 1721 – 17 November 1780) was an Italian urban landscape painter or vedutista and etching printer best known for his vedute of European towns such as Dresden, Vienna, Turin, and Warsaw.

He was the pupil and nephew of the famed Giovanni Antonio Canal Canaletto, and he occasionally signed himself as Bernardo Canaletto.

In Germany and Poland, Bellotto was known as Canaletto, after his uncle. This created some consternation, although Bellotto’s work is darker in color than Canaletto’s, and his representation of clouds and shadows places him closer to Dutch painting.
